Aftershock Exhibition Redesign

background

Aftershock is an immersive installation created for Copenhagen Contemporary by James Turrell. The installation exhibits a cycle of changing colored lights in various combinations. The lights and colors make the room’s boundaries ambiguous, creating a sense of disorientation.

challenge

In DES 136A: Designing with Light, my team created a scale physical model of Aftershock, an immersive light exhibit. We used LED lights to mimic the lighting qualities and implemented our own redesigns.

opportunity

In our redesigns, we experimented with different color combinations to see what mood the colors would produce and whether they were able to mimic the disorienting effect of the colors chosen by Turrell.
